The colour scheme is one of the most important decisions to make when planning your wedding. It’s super important to create the mood and atmosphere for the day and will likely impact your bridesmaid dresses, flowers and maybe even your invitations.
It can be difficult to pinpoint exactly which colours you want and how to ensure they compliment your venue. You know what you want it to look like in your head, but you don’t know how to put it all together. Here are some tips to help!
- To start you off, one of the first places I’d go to is Pinterest. Pin everything you like and then you can start to narrow it down.
(Top tip: Don’t choose something that’s really on trend but is not your vibe at all. You don’t want to look back and have any regrets! Trends come and go but your wedding photos are forever!)
- Think about the season. Which colours compliment the weather? If it’s a winter wedding, you probably won’t be choosing light pastel colours. With that being said, no one is expecting you to choose red and green!
- Think about your style. Which colours do you like? It’s likely that your home can answer this question for you. Are you a neutral person who likes to keep it simple or do you like extravagant colours? Do you have a favourite colour that you’re desperate to bring into your wedding day?
- Consider your location. If there are lots of decorative items in place or it has a vibrant red carpet, you need to avoid using colours which are going to clash.
- Choose 2-4 colours which compliment each other. It’s a good idea to choose a main colour along with an added metallic which will be used for taper candles / other styling items. E.g. for an Autumn wedding you might choose orange as your main colour with a neutral soft beige and gold as your metallic.
- Some on trend colour palettes for 2023 are: sage green, purple and lavender, pale blue, oranges and rust, black, copper and white!
I hope this was helpful when narrowing down your colour palette. Just remember, it’s your day and your stylist will follow your vision and make it more beautiful than you imagined!
